ALL of the parents I know are stressed about this year for a myriad of reasons... We want to make sure that school portraits aren't one of them.
Whether you have a 3rd grader who won't be blessing you with that goofy-grinned and messy-haired school portrait this year or a junior or senior who is bummed that they didn't or won't have a normal prom, we are here to help!
To avoid the client overlap of mini days, Back-to-school Minis will be offered this year, for the months of August and September, as stand-alone sessions at the mini price. Up to 30mins at Wraven Design in York, PA. One outfit. 10 digital files -$95
We'd also hate to see all of the glitter and glam of Homecoming and Prom collecting dust in a closet, so we're now offering Epic Prom/Homecoming Sessions. Available in conjunction with a Senior Session with up to 2 additional wardrobe choices. Approximately 90mins. - $200. Or as a Formalwear-Only session. Approximately 30mins -$95.
(Open to all genders in their suits, tuxes, dresses, or anything in between! Couples welcome. Locations TBD. Digital files, prints, etc available through wraven.com)
So if you have a student or students who will be missing their school portraits this year, or you would just like something other than one pose on that grey modeled background, let's schedule something unique for your family!
Contact [email protected] or message our Facebook page for booking.

2020 Sessions: If we have had to postpone a session from March, April, or May, we can start rescheduling for June onward. New sessions can also start booking tentatively for June onward. All scheduling will remain flexible based on the current state and CDC guidelines so we can make sure to do our best for our clients while navigating changing restrictions.
2020 Weddings: I feel for you all immensely. I know some of you have had to postpone your weddings already and everyone is tentatively waiting to see how the situation unfolds. I intend on being as flexible as possible in regard to postponements during this unprecedented time. The specifics will be on a case by case basis. If you can please keep me in the loop on if/how you intend to change your plans, we can discuss our options to make sure you still have everything you need for your wedding day. All deposits will still carry over to a new date in 2020 or 2021 and there are no additional fees for postponing to a new date. We are here for you and can help with any planning/photography questions you may have.
We are still booking new weddings for 2020 and 2021. If you are in the initial planning stages of your wedding or have run into scheduling issues with other vendors due to COVID-19, please contact us for availability. We want to help you capture your fairytale.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We can navigate this time together.

In compliance with Governor Wolf's closing of nonessential businesses, the Spring Minis set for March 28th & 29th will be postponed. Sessions will be rescheduled to ensure that dates and times work for as many clients as possible when the situation settles enough to do so.
Anyone looking to help offset the effect of this shutdown on small business owners and their families, please consider putting deposits for later in the year down in advance or purchasing gift certificates for loved ones from your favorite local businesses. We appreciate it!
If you have concerns about your scheduled session, please feel free to contact me to discuss our options.
Stay healthy, my lovelies.

May was a busy month at Wraven Design! Here are a few of my favorites from the past few weeks.
Justine & Kevin just welcomed their little guy into the world this week. Congratulations to the new family & I can't wait to meet him!
We had a blast with this editorial shoot of James R. Ling and Margaret Onstead for 45 Wheels Luxury Transportation Company. Special thanks to Olivia Barclay Digital Marketer for coordinating!
After Sullivan's May Hematology/Oncology Clinic visit (He's doing splendidly!) we took a trip to Hershey Gardens to see the butterflies and shoot Marlena & Blake's sibling session.
Miss Cara came to visit with her beautiful dark hair.
...and she brought her three older brothers. I think they're in love! ❤️
Christy & Ted had a beautiful boho woodland wedding with succulents and crystal accents.
Christy's Raw diamond ring is beautiful!
Congratulations Christy & Ted!
Mr. Grayson celebrated his second birthday with a few familiar faces: Cookie Monster, Elmo, and Big Bird!
I believe Andrea & Luis found their way to Wraven Design by a twist of fate. Luis was diagnosed with AML, the same leukemia as Sullivan, this year and is currently undergoing treatment.
Adversity hasn't caused a shortage of smiles for these two or their gorgeous kiddos, however.
Best of luck to you all and I wish you the easiest course of treatment possible, Luis. #noonefightsalone
May's final wedding officially brought together Erin, Brandon, and little Aurora as one big happy family!
The weather did NOT have our backs for most of the day but rain on your wedding day is lucky, right? Or "ironic" at any rate... haha
I don't think these two will need the luck though... they have plenty of love already!
Nora turned SIX this year! I've been photographing her since she was a baby and it's been wonderful watching her grow.
Always good to end the month with a little magic!
As always, a huge thank you to Paige, Emily, and Abby for all of your help with this month's shoots!
Looking forward to big changes in June and July! (..psst, New Studio!!)
]]>
Lisa and Corey are two of the sweetest people I have ever met. Their concern for my son during his treatment and my family's well being as a whole was humbling and so very much appreciated. At their wedding, it was evident that they treat everyone in their lives with the same level of care and respect. Every speech by friend and family was heartfelt, hilarious, and touching. There wasn't a dry eye in the venue as the best men and maid of honor went into great detail as to how wonderful Lisa and Corey truly are.
It's been a pleasure to know you both and I hope we continue to remain in each other's lives.
It was insanely hot and humid that day but this crew definitely didn't let that stop them from having a fantastic time!
The lodge is a gorgeous mix of rustic barn and glamorous mountain cabin, with outdoor ceremony space and an indoor reception area.
Special thanks to Samantha and Hunter for being amazing clients!
]]>
Tracy and Brian had a beautiful, intimate ceremony at The Bond in York, PA. This was my first time shooting here and I have to say, I love the space! It's simple and industrial which makes the perfect neutral backdrop to let all of your personal details shine. The full wall of windows and gorgeous crystal chandeliers made for just the right amount of sparkle for their winter evening wedding.
Tracy was stunning in a floor-length beaded gown and elegant updo. With her bridesmaids, the groom, and groomsmen all in black, the chic minimalist color palate was complete. In contrast, their gorgeous floral elements contained deep burgundy and amazingly scented pines, which really popped against the black and white.
We even braved the cold to take outdoor shots in the streets of downtown York to continue the urban industrial vibe. (Shout out to Paige for flagging down this car and getting them to turn their high beams on! And to York PD for their cameo!)
Not even a major wardrobe malfunction could stop this couple and their gorgeous blended family from dancing the night away. Tracy and Brian's wedding was definitely a wonderful way to end a difficult year.
...to her beautiful wedding to James this past May.
And now a very special new addition...
Happy Big Brother Status, Lycan!
Congratulations to the whole family!
(Sully & Dr. Bear)
I could write volumes about this time of our lives but I'll spare you the horror of it all and focus on the business end of things... The fall was a juggling act between living at the children's hospital at Hershey Med with Sully and traveling to photograph weddings and engagements all over central PA. My assistants, Emily & Paige, and my intern, Abby (and her awesome mother, Jenn!) were absolutely indispensable. You ladies had my back when I hadn't slept in weeks and then had to shoot for 6-8hrs straight. You traveled with me, kept me sane(ish) and kept track of my very absent mind during the worst months of my life. I cannot thank you enough. Shortly before Thanksgiving, Sullivan was released from the hospital after his longest and most complicated round of chemo and the subsequent infections resulting from his compromised immune system.
(All attitude as usual)
Sully is officially in remission and although he doesn't attend regular school yet, is still on at home medications, and still has monthly clinic appointments for labs and ophthalmology check-ups, our lives have returned to something resembling normal.
All of my work from 2018 is finally finished, marking the longest turnaround of my career. BY FAR. I can't thank my couples and portrait clients enough for being so patient and understanding with the delays and my scattered brain this past year.
I greatly appreciate that you put your trust in Wraven Design to capture once in a lifetime memories even during such a hectic time.
(Rocking his TMNT and Pikachu.)
Please enjoy some of my favorite shots from 2018's Weddings by Wraven Design:
I am forever grateful for this amazing career that has allowed me to take care of my family while still being able to support them by doing what I love. That being said, last year was definitely a lighter workload and tighter budget, but a new year marks a fresh start for all of us, one that my family is especially thankful to have the opportunity to enjoy. I am currently booking 2019 portrait sessions, including engagements, and 2019 & 2020 weddings. I am so excited to get back to work fulltime, capturing fairytales for more happy couples!

Anyone who knows me knows that NerdLove is my favorite Love. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, The Whedonverse, whatever geeky things set your heart aflutter, I'm there. Not least of all, of course, the wonderful wizarding world of Harry Potter. So when Amy approached me about photographing their Wizardy Wedding next October, I was over the moon. Naturally, their engagement session needed to be just as nerdy. We chose our perfect "Hogwarts," (not bad for Pennsylvania) and set out on the chilliest day of the season to capture Amy and Alex's magical love story. With wand battles - love zaps only, all 7 books, Newt Scamander's suitcase, a homemade Ravenclaw scarf, one of Hedwig's feathers, our very own bowtruckle, and even a visit from a couple of Patronuses, this has definitely been added to my list of favorite sessions. Thank you so much for sharing your magic with us!

The weather was a bit dodgy, unfortunately, but the rain held back from really pouring until after the ceremony. We were prepared with a very apropos rainbow umbrella and good spirits. All told, it was a perfect day for the joining of two people in love. Please enjoy a glimpse of Gia & Stef's wedding below:
Congratulations Gia & Stef! Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your big day! #loveislove
]]>Congratulations!
]]>Happy Birthday, Nora!
So when she asked to come see me again, I was thrilled to meet her bundle of joy! Little Westlinn is just gorgeous, with that huge gummy grin and rolls on her rolls. (Everyone knows chubby babies are the best!) It was a perfect pre-Mother's Day gift to capture the special bond between mother and baby.
Happy (early) Mother's Day to all my fellow moms! Sorry for the extra feels and hormones, haha.
Margaret, Lycan, James, & Molly are now officially a family and I couldn't be happier for them.
Love to you all & Congratulations Onsteads!

It's finally Spring in Pennsylvania, though it felt like Summer today. With the weather's improvement, outdoor sessions can finally start! (without anyone freezing their face off, that is.) Allison stopped by tonight for a "Mommy & Me" session with her boys. Trevin, Zane, & Quinn ran around, played on the swingset, and gave Mommy dandelions and big hugs!
I love how these turned out so much that now I want someone to do one for me and my three boys! I think that would make a wonderful Mother's Day present. Please contact [email protected] to book a session for your own family or to give as a gift!

]]>When I host boudoir days, the focus is on my clients. Yes, the photos are often gifts for their significant others but the real gift is that moment when a woman sees herself in the mirror and I see that little smile and glint in her eyes. That "Damn, I look good!" moment. When the photos come back and I hear the confidence come from these women, it is truly uplifting. Those comments of "I didn't think I could look so sexy!" and "I look FIERCE! Thank you!" are what these days are all about. We have a great group of professional women who come together to lift up other women. We are here for each other. We vent, we laugh, we primp and pamper and photograph. By the end of the day, every one of us is better for it. I wish that everyone could experience this sense of community and empowerment.
I know the sessions come at a cost, as we are all business women, supporting ourselves and our children with our creative careers, but in the end, it is not really about the money. It's about supporting each other in any way we can. This is why we will be gifting a complete boudoir session, including full hair and makeup and a relaxing massage, to a local domestic abuse survivor. In the grand scheme of life, it is a small gesture but I hope it will have a big impact and not only help her move onward and upward for herself and her children but also raise awareness of this all too frequent issue in our society. In the US alone, one in four women will become a victim of violent domestic abuse in her lifetime. If you include psychological and sexual abuse, the statistics are even more startling at nearly half of us having experienced some form of abuse from someone who was supposed to love us. Every 9 seconds another woman has her life and her confidence in herself changed forever.
I for one will be doing everything in my power to bring that confidence back.

]]>The Clark Family Ranch covers approximately one thousand acres of farmland & forests in Hustontown Pennsylvania, with one hundred horses grazing in their pastures. So when Laramie Clark approached me to photograph she and Brandon's engagement photos, I was ecstatic! An unusually short turnaround from booking to shooting, I only had a week to wait for our sunset session. Upon arriving at the farm around six last night, my wonderful assistant Emily and I were greeted by the couple's very enthusiastic puppies Eva and Roxy. Shorts and puppy nails do not mix and I ended up with a lovely souvenir from the evening in the form of an 18” scratch down my thigh. Eva is lucky she’s cute… with that one floppy ear and a head tilt, I forgave her right away. After introductions with the human clients, including Laramie’s mother, Tina, we wandered through one of their stables and gathered three beautiful horses to feature in the couple’s portraits. After walking the horses down a short path, we all piled into a large Polaris ATV (Five adults and two dogs, leading three horses) and made our way over hills and down into a glen to Fortune Teller Creek. Once we were there, we braved the overgrowth (with limited snake jokes) and brought Sadie down to the water.
After shooting with the three of them in the creek we made our way back to the ATV, wet shoes and all. Navigating back out of the glen, under fallen trees and around drop offs from where the rain washed away the trail was an interesting experience. After dropping off the horses, we took the ATV up a large hill into an open field filled with horses. I haven’t spent much time around these beautiful animals so this was a completely new site for me. That large of a group, free of reigns, running together was rather majestic and reminded me of old western movies. Shooting in the middle of a herd was a bit jarring but I only had one close call. Otherwise they were a gorgeous addition to the landscape of our portraits.
After working with the horses, the group of us wandered around the farm on foot and by ATV to several more hidden little locations, finding different lighting opportunities and surroundings to add variety to their session.
Two hours after we arrived, our shoot was finished and we headed home to a long night of editing. I always say that it’s not a great shoot unless I come home injured or filthy. This definitely qualified and was so very worth it. I can’t wait to shoot Laramie & Brandon’s wedding next May. Congratulations on your engagement!
Please enjoy some of my favorites from their session below:

I had a prospective wedding client as me what my favorite parts about weddings/wedding photography are...
"I'm a sucker for the romance... I'm not a girly girl but try as I may, first dances, stolen glances, the little hand holds when no one (but my camera) is watching.. it all gets me right in the feels. Concerning the photography aspect. I love the details... Ring shots, candy displays, the lace and beading on wedding dresses, cuff links & ties, tablescapes and floral arrangements... All of the tiny details that brides put so much care into are so much fun to capture... But my favorite thing has to be playing with light... Deep, dramatic shadows and colors with that glowy "golden hour" sunset lighting.. I love to take my couples away from everyone (only briefly, I promise) either between the ceremony and reception or sometime after dinner between important reception traditions, and just bring the two of you to some intimate little corner garden, at the top of a hill in the setting sun or nestled among the trees where the light is just right... then I'll ask you to ignore me. Just talk... hold hands, hug, steal kisses.. and I capture that dynamic that exists between the two of you on the happiest day of your lives... once the stress of it all is over, the commitment has been made and all you have left to do is enjoy each other. That is my favorite part."
After Amber found me on The Knot, we talked about how to make their engagement session truly epic. She told me that both of them were very competitive so naturally I knew we had to make a game out of things. We shot more "traditional" images first which will be finished at a later date. Once those were done, they broke out the balloons. One exploded before we even got started & you can see the shock in their faces! After a hilarious battle, Amber claimed her victory and her prize... although it looks more like Shane claimed her. I had such a blast this evening! Thank you both for indulging my strange idea and making it come to life. Congratulations on your engagement!

At eight months it was determined Haidyn did indeed need the shunt placement. On April 22, 2013 she had her first ever (and only, so far) brain surgery for VP shunt placement. This means there is a device in her brain that allows the excess cerebrospinal fluid to drain into a connected tube. This tube travels all the way to Haidyn's belly where it is reabsorbed. She hasn't needed any revisions or replacements so far. Haidyn’s progress is remarkable as she is doing everything the doctors said she wouldn't be able to do and more! She has been seen by Birth Through Five (an Early Intervention program through the state of Maryland) since she was an infant to help with her development.
![]() |
![]() |
I met Haidyn last summer when we did our first shoot together. She has quite a personality! Haidyn is sweet and funny and always a pleasure to photograph. She may need a little extra patience and understanding so her processing time can catch up but we always create beautiful work together. She has a few sensory issues, particularly an aversion to the texture of grass but with the help of her amazing parents, Meghan and Bryan, she is learning handle them and so am I. A few concessions for textures or situations she is uncomfortable with, and we can have a lot of fun with our sessions! Since we’ve met, Miss Haidyn has done two storybook sessions as Tinkerbell and Little Red Riding Hood with her puppy Killi (named for the JRR Tolkien character… Nerds after my own heart!) as well as photos for her third birthday and a Christmas shoot with her cousin.
She has made so much progress that she was discharged from physical therapy on June 1, 2016! Haidyn has caught up to the curve and the physical therapists no longer need to intervene. What great news!! To celebrate, we did a special session today with another tiny yet resilient soul. Little Hope is a four-day old fawn who has taken to Haidyn so quickly! They are clearly the best of friends, sharing kisses and hugs while exploring the field at Wraven Design.
At the end of the summer we are planning another Storybook session for Haidyn’s fourth birthday as Belle from Beauty & the Beast. I for one can’t wait! I’m so proud of you, little Haidyn for beating the odds, surpassing all expectation and growing into such a wonderful little girl!
*** More Images of Haidyn and Hope ***
6/7/16 EDIT: Due to popular demand... The little fawn is coming back to Wraven Design! She'll be a bit bigger but will still have her spots. Sign up for your Call of the Wild mini session on Facebook or www.wraven.com
Saturday April 16th will be a special event at Wraven Design, Fairy Day! Fairy or Hobbit sessions will be open to children 6mos and older and adults. Sessions will be outdoors (rain date TBD) in Lewisberry PA with woodland and lake scenery available. Sessions are up to 30mins, include one fae-themed outfit and 10 digital images for $80. Please contact me for booking before paying via the website and to discuss wardrobe.
Wardrobe options can be provided by Wraven Design or the client or a combination of the two. I have many options for small children.

Wraven Design is looking for couples who are planning a 2016 or 2017 wedding in Missoula, MT or the surrounding areas and are in need of a photographer. LGBT and offbeat couples more than welcome! Adjusted rates are always available for destinations I personally seek out. Packages 3, 4 & 5 will be $300 off and only a single photographer. Engagement sessions & fees can also be waived. Wardrobe can make or break a photoshoot. One of the most frequent questions I receive from portraiture clients is “What should we wear?” Clothing choice can easily take an ordinary session to extraordinary and vice versa so it should always be discussed prior to the day of one’s session. Here are a few questions I have found come up either from myself or clients, while choosing perfect portrait wardrobe.
What is your end goal for this session? What type of products do you plan on purchasing?
Wardrobe choices are vastly different when creating wall canvases vs birthday party invites or holiday cards. Date-specific items can and should feature seasonal wardrobe, holiday color schemes and weather-appropriate clothing choices. You wouldn’t want bathing suits on your Christmas cards or the family in red & green for your summer birthday invites. However, when creating portraits for long term in-home display, a more neutral approach is advised. This is NOT to say everyone should break out the jeans and white T-shirts (…please don’t.) Choosing colors that are found in the room of your home that you wish to display the photos is a perfect way to help wall portraits feel like they belong there and are part of your home’s decor. Colors should however remain fairly muted or neutral so portraits can convey if the décor in your home happens to change in a year or two.
Should we all match?
If the session is for a family, couple or group of children, this question often comes up. The short answer is I would suggest coordination over matching. Choosing a color scheme of three or four colors will help family members look as if they all belong in the photo without being too “matchy matchy,” which looks dated and overdone. Try not to include all the same colored tops or bottoms either. Mom in a burgundy top while daughter has burgundy in the pattern of her skirt and dad in his tie is an example of a great way to spread out the color while bringing everyone’s outfits together. The exception to this rule is of course twins or multiples. It's fair game to match the outfits of twins and coordinate outfits with other family members.
What colors should I choose?
I will always suggest neutral, muted, jewel tones or pastels over BRIGHTS. These colors are more likely to convey between changes in the decoration of one’s own home and also coordinate with Grandma’s living room and Aunt Jess’s kitchen when you share portraits with loved ones. There are also other issues with brights and neons to take into account. A frustrating side effect of the current trend toward 80s throwback neon is color cast. This is when the colors from clothing, blankets, and sometimes walls and other surroundings actually reflect on the skin of subjects in a photo. This is especially prevalent in babies and toddlers who tend to have “less neck,” placing their cute little cherub cheeks right in direct reflection of that bright watermelon pinky-orange shirt. A good photographer can avoid this in many lighting situations or at least clean it up in post but the process is time consuming and runs the risk of creating an over retouched look which effects the overall quality of your portraits. These neons often seem to glow with modern DSLRs and post-processing techniques as well which is distracting from the faces of clients which should be the focus of portraiture.
Do you recommend avoiding prints or logos?
Yes and no. A tiny logo on a polo shirt or a polka dotted skirt on one family member would be just fine. Mixing a ton of prints (an entire family in plaid shirts for instance) becomes busy, distracting and difficult to edit. Slogans, licensed characters and graphic Ts will definitely date your photos and take away from the overall longevity of your portraits. The exception to this of course is a “First Birthday” onesie on your tiny toddler.. those photos will always be from his or her first birthday so things of this nature are fine. Including characters can be problematic due to the fluctuating tastes of children as well. That Elsa T-shirt may be her very favorite thing EVER this week but next week she is all about Anna and you are no longer able to have family portraits on display without hearing about it from your precocious preschooler every five minutes. (Can you tell I have children?) Sticking to solid colors or subtle prints for portraits can avoid this issue of future frustration.
What if we want to do a theme?
I LOVE this question. I am all about vintage styling and themes. I will always suggest adding timeless touches such as bow ties, suspenders, retro or classic jewelry and fedoras or newsboys caps to portrait wardrobe. I also advise choosing timeless shoe styles such as mary janes, boots, or even chucks/converse sneakers over obviously modern sneakers, crocs, or character-clad shoes. This same goes for coats. For fall or winter wardrobe, a pea coat or sweater will always trump a bright pink puffy Dora the Explorer coat for creating a timeless memory. A theme shoot such as a specific fairytale, book, movie, time period, etc. is also a great way to spice up portraits and create a unique memory for years to come. When considering themes, I always ask…
What do you/your children like?
It may seem obvious but finding out what a client is into is a great way to tailor a session to their personalities. You can plan the most detailed and perfect Cinderella shoot imaginable and it will turn out horribly if the little girl is a Sleeping Beauty fan and pouts in all of her photos. If you plan a rustic country barn shoot for a high school senior in a rock band, you’re probably getting angry teen face if not an all-out refusal to participate.. so always discuss specific likes and dislikes when planning themed shoots. Happy kids make for much better portraits.
What should I do for prep?
In addition to the clothing and accessories aspects of wardrobe there is the often overlooked grooming. Grooming, manscaping! Whatever you call it, it is vastly important. Nails should be freshly painted or completely void of polish, well-manicured or trimmed and CLEAN. Fingers and toes if they will be seen. Men should shave or shape their scruff or beards. I am all about facial hair if it is well manscaped but a straggly beard looks unkempt. All the appropriate shaving, plucking and waxing should be considered for women as well. This is especially important for boudoir photos. Now, that is not to say that everyone HAS to do these things. If you are a little more au naturel, that’s a personal choice. Just be aware what will show up in photos.. if you don’t want it there, please do your best to groom it away beforehand. Your photographer will thank you profusely. Conversely, scars, beauty marks, moles, etc that you WANT in photos, please inform us of this beforehand or during the shoot so they don't end up being mistakenly edited out.
Additional tips:
Clients should avoid messy/staining foods and beverages before sessions as well. Kool-aid mouth and spaghetti-o face are as problematic and frustrating as the neon color cast issue. I will often have extra wipes on hand for last minute messes.. kids happen.. but I encourage clients to avoid anything that may stain, just in case. This also includes mid-shoot beverages or rewards. I am absolutely not above doling out cheerios to appease a fussy baby. They are small (limited chipmunk cheeks), easily eaten quickly, and make minimum mess. Rewards such as lollipops, M&Ms or gummies are advised against due to the food dye mess and stickiness on faces, hands and props or wardrobe.
All told, wardrobe and details are an essential conversation to have between client(s) and photographer. Always ask if you have questions. Discussing even the silliest detail before a session can make all the difference in the finished portraits.

"Angel" by Massive Attack and this ad were stuck in my mind. I had to recreate the feeling of that little window in time. Naturally, I called James Ling. The scheduling gods finally smiled upon us, giving us a chance to work together again after almost an entire year. He knocked it out of the park per usual.. These are a few of my favorites. I hope we have successfully captured the feeling of the track and a bit of Mr. Reynolds' mojo.. although I also see quite a bit of Mr. Bond here as well. Spyface. Is anyone else excited to see Spectre?
Please show James a little love on his new Facebook page, become a fan, poke around and see what he's up to.. and don't forget to check in with Wraven Design on Facebook for more updates and portraits. x

]]>I was lying awake and thinking last night about many things.. among them was the desire to do boudoir photography much, much more often. I love it! I love giving women the opportunity to feel sexy, desirable, sultry, comfortable in her own skin.. and little else. I love the rush of the look on her face when she sees herself the way I see her. I love the smile, the look of awe.. I love the quickly thought of and abruptly spoken comments of "I love my curves in this shot!" or "My ass looks fantastic!" ...those little utterances of confidence are what makes it all worth it. All women deserve to have that ego boost. That sense of self. We are all Forces of Nature... too often we lose sight of that over the course of daily life. Boudoir photos do make great gifts for that special someone in our lives.. but they make the best gift to ourselves. Do it. Get out there. Take the leap and feel amazing about yourself. I promise it will be worth it.

This year I am amazingly thankful for the client and "fan" interest in my photography. I have been completely overwhelmed (sometimes literally) by all the likes, comments, booking requests and general attention that this page and the business as a whole has gotten in 2013! THANK YOU ALL!! <3
This fall I have been admittedly overwhelmed. Wedding season was intense with several destination weddings in rapid succession that had me out of town or out of state for days at a time. As a result, I fell behind. Editing turn around times have been much longer than I'd like. Clients have gotten frustrated, antsy, and sometimes downright nasty about it. I understand. I can assure you that no one has been as upset and stressed out by it as me. I am my own harshest critic. I am a perfectionist. I hate disappointing people. I much prefer happy returning customers and growing friendships.
I am bound and determined to get completely caught up to my personal preferred turn around times before Christmas... for my clients and for myself and my family (so I can actually relax over the holidays and not spend all my time stressing over deadlines and being a neurotic mess like I have been this fall) Specifically, I want to have Kristen & Rob and Billie & Andy's weddings up by the end of this month, Shellie & Randy and Courtney & Jeff's weddings up by Dec 15th. I want to have Healing for the Holidays sessions done by Thanksgiving. Everything from HFTH up until the Mini days done before the end of November, and mini days and any other holiday shoots done by Dec 15th. Personal projects/modeling shoots I will work on over Christmas break (American Male & Are You a Good Witch or a Bad Witch).
2014 Turn around times will then be back to normal: A typical maximum of 2 weeks for sessions and one month for weddings... with teasers/previews still going up same or next day.
This year I've learned my own limits for booking and editing. I've learned how much business I can actually take on in order to stay ahead of deadlines and stay sane. As a result, I am learning to say 'no' as well. I cannot take all the business requested of me.. For that I am truly sorry. I love photography! I love meeting new people and capturing their special moments. I love continuing to watch children grow. ...but I will have to limit my sessions, book further out, and limit myself to two weddings per month. I will be better balancing the business and my own family as well. (I'm pretty sure my kids don't recognize me anymore without a keyboard or camera attached to me...)
I want to thank you all again for coming along with me this year.. for liking my page and following the photos that are posted each day. Thank you for loving my art. Expect more creative, fanciful, crazy concept shoots. Expect more beautiful babies and epic weddings. Expect more stunning models and happy families. Expect more from me. Keep me on my toes like you have done this year, and I will not disappoint you.
Now back to editing.. *cracks whip* ha.

Medusa, one of the three Gorgons, daughter of Phorcys and Ceto, was the only one of the Gorgons who was subject to mortality. She was celebrated for her personal charms and the beauty of her flowing locks. Neptune became enamored by her and obtained for her favors in the temple of Minerva. This violation of the sanctity of the temple provoked Minerva and she changed the beautiful locks of Medusa, which had inspired Neptune’s love, into serpents. Her body was covered with impenetrable scales and her stare had the power to turn a man to stone. Perseus rendered his name immortal by his conquest of Medusa. He cut off her head, and the blood that dropped from the wound produced the innumerable serpents in this world.
Some suppose that the Gorgons represented a nature of women.. beautiful yet deadly.. but I will let you be the judge.

Apron & Hairbow by Sweet P's Boutique Model: Sweet P herself!
I absolutely jumped at the chance to implement my Offbeat Discount and shoot the crazy unique wedding of Jennifer & Andy. My husband and I trekked across the state from Chambersburg, to Etters (near Harrisburg) to drop our boys off with my parents, and then to Old City Philadelphia where this hidden little gem is. Woodlands Cemetery is tucked in a quazi-sketchy part of Philly and hidden so well that you could literally drive right past it.. and we did. Twice.
Jenn & Andy had a short but sweet ceremony followed by a rather intense two and a half hours or so of shooting in 90 degree weather (all of us in all or mostly black!). Mother nature has a lovely sense of humor.
Other than almost melting, the small bridal party and I had a wonderful time, complete with fabulou hair & accessories!
Kelia & Shane had a wonderful session in spite of the very hot sun and the fact that we all got lost on campus and took a half hour to find each other. Congratulations to the happy couple!
Little Sophia is 12 days new! She and Big Sister Emma brought Mommy & Daddy to see me today in a collaborative shoot with Holly D from Backwoods Photography. Sophia slept soundly (after a little effort, lol) on Daddy's fireman gear and the quilt my mother made me as a child.
We did manage to get a few with Emma and Sophia together, showing a little sisterly love!
A special thank you to Sophia's Daddy and to all of the men and women who risk their lives, fighting the flames to protect not just little Sophia, but all of us!

A client asked me for wardrobe suggestions for her fall family/maternity session and I thought I would pass along my (slightly fluffed up, lol) response. Info on Fall Apple Orchard Sessions is at the bottom of the page!
If you are doing this, you have chosen to pay good money for a session and will hopefully end up with a large print to hang on your wall. You want it to be something that is worth your money and you will have for a very long time. Something you will be proud to give as a gift to mom or grandma... so dress to impress.
Choose classic/timeless looks - solids, stripes, plaid, knits, denim, lace, etc.. avoid brand names, cartoon characters, baseball caps or other items with sports teams, etc.. in a year or 5 or 10 you - and your child(ren) - won't like those same things and it will make the image feel outdated.
Dress up. Dress nicely. Fall boots & dress shoes or ballet flats, instead of bright athletic style sneakers (although a clean pair of Converse/Chucks would work!) Dresses, skirts, nice clean well-fitting jeans, cords, or slacks, dress shirts, blouses/tops, sweaters, etc.. Also fall is perfect for fun accessories like knee socks, scarves, hats or pretty headbands, jewelry!, etc.
I would suggest neutral colors - creams, browns, greys, plus deep reds, muted rosy pink, rusty orange, ochre.. are all great options. Dark blue/denim.. but I would stay away from bright blue, bright green, bubble gum pink, lemony yellow, and other "spring colors." Think of a fall walk in the woods as your color palate.
Whatever you choose, choose ahead of time. Put some thought into what each member of the family will be wearing. Lay the outfits out next to each other so you can check for color matching or clashing. A little "homework" will help you feel prepared and happy with your selections the day of your session. Remember, I am always available to help!
I've also been pinning wardrobe to my "Sir Isaac Newton" board on Pinterest for visual "Pinspiration"
Apple Orchard Sessions with Wraven Design will be in Chambersburg on Sundays Sept 8th and 29th starting at 10am. Sessions can be with the "Apples & Cider Stand" or just in the natural beauty of the orchard. Children, adults, couples, families - All sessions will be $50 each and include unlimited downloads. Please contact me for booking. All event day sessions MUST be prepaid via credit, debit, or paypal through Wraven.com, by personal check either mailed or in person, or cash in person before Sept 1st. Any cancellations/no shows will be transferable to a different date* but not refundable.
(*rescheduled location may vary)
My husband's middle brother visited from Michigan this past weekend. He left with a new tattoo from his brother and a new photoshoot to show it off.
I recently had the pleasure of doing some portfolio work for model, Brooke Long. We spent several hours wading in a lake, getting caught by briars in fields and getting covered in mud and sand. The weather was touch and go for most of the shoot but the cloud cover proved to be an asset. Thank you Mother Nature, I shall not doubt you again!
Anyone who knows me knows that I have a weakness for brotherly love. My three sons. My husband and his three brothers. My Dad and his five brothers! There are a lot of groups of boys in our family. I am an absolute sucker for their comradery and rivalry. These two little boys were very much brothers. We had such a wonderful morning tromping around in the lake, playing with worms and getting covered in dirt!

This is the slightly cleaned up version of a response to a message from a fellow photographer who is just starting out.
Advice, advice.. I get this question increasingly often and I'm always humbled by it.. me? advice? What do I know?
but I figured I would try. So here goes..
PRACTICE. It sounds like a "duh" statement but it really makes a huge difference. Shoot anything and everything you can. If aren't doing this professionally or just don't have a packed schedule, borrow friends & family, pets, flowers, rocks! Anything.
Learn your camera. I am a loyal Canon user but any half decent camera can be used to take great photos if you know how to use it and practice enough. ALWAYS shoot in manual and change up your f stops and ISO. See what works and what doesn't with bright light, low light, back light, front light, fill flash, sun, shade etc. etc. Don't get trapped by the studio lighting/"natural light photography" debate. Shoot with whatever you have.. hell, shoot with glowsticks and flashlights just to gain perspective and experience. A photographic inspiration of mine, Jodi Samsel (https://www.facebook.com/samselphotography) shot one of my favorite portraits of my dear friend and producer at Seventh Wave Studio with an aquarium light. Don't be a snob about light sources. Use your imagination!
I also HIGHLY recommend studying/researching fine art. Concepts like the rule of thirds and asymmetry... foreground, middle ground & background, etc go a long LONG way in creating dynamic art instead of just a snapshot. Color theory will also help you construct, manage and correct your color during both the photographic and editing processes.
Take at least one computer art course (even the online seminar kind). Knowing your way around Photoshop & Lightroom is a huge advantage, especially starting out.. it helps correct over or under exposed shots, fix cropping, etc. Don't go overboard on editing tho. The very biggest/most common "mistake" (to me at least) that I see from a lot of photographers is over editing to the point where it does a disservice to your original photo. Hit Y a couple of times in Lightroom during the editing process (to view the original and the edited version) or bounce back and forth between the current and previous versions in Photoshop. If whatever you just did is not a necessary improvement, scale it back or skip it all together. Especially editing the eyes or smoothing the skin. Unless you are TRYING to make someone look like a doll (which I have for random weirdo things from time to time...) over smooth skin and over bright/contrasty eyes will just look fake or even creepy. Less is more.. although I am a big fan of vintage colorings and effects so there is a slight bit of hypocrisy there.. It's all a matter of personal taste when it comes to color/black & white/sepia/vintage color effects. But the rule of thumb (wrist?) there still stands.. if it didn't make the photo look BETTER than when you started.. Don't do it.
As far as muses go... Music. ALL THE TIME. Especially when editing. If I can manage to get time where I am not the main parent on duty, I'll even throw on my very expensive and completely worth it noise-cancelling headphones and crank it. - A must for any mom/photographer I'd say! (Any parent really.. especially those who attempt to work from home on a regular basis) What kind depends on my mood but usually the louder the better. (Anything from Marilyn Manson to Fallout Boy, Jimi Hendrix to Justin Timberlake.. I have layers. ha.) I have some ADD issues and loud music helps me focus. ..as you can probably tell from this poorly organized mash of paragraphs and topics. Tho I've been interrupted about 6 times by my boys.. so, maybe that's pretty good all things considered?
Anyway.. that's a bit of the things I've learned in the 10+ years I've been doing photography. I hope it is of some use or amusement. I've learned a lot through trial and error and what not to do.. and still have miles to go before I sleep... so take it all with a grain of salt, if you take it at all.

We took over the banquet floor at Bube's Brewery in Mt. Joy, PA. A must visit historical building, restaurant, bar, dinner theater, hotel with great food and an excellent beer & wine selection. (Try the blueberry meade!!)
Here are a few teasers from that shoot.
Look for more from this shoot this spring and the full-length album shoot this summer!

After the shoot I found this (not so) little guy hanging out behind a street sign. Perfect fall vibe.. beautiful and just the right amount of creepy...
